These geckos make excellent pets. Their cute and comical appearance, velvety skin, extremely variable colours and patterns, and easy care are just a few points about cresties which have made them become so popular. Their needs are simple, and if well looked-after they will live a long life - their estimated lifespan is around 20 years, but nobody is certain yet; they were only rediscovered in 1994!

• Most are naturally calm when being handled.

• They don't produce a smell (if kept clean!).

• Illness is rare if properly cared for.

• A complete powder diet is available - no need for feeder insects.

• They require no additional heating - room temperature of 20-26C(68-79F) is ideal.

• They don't need any additional lighting (natural light from windows suffices).

• They come in a huge range of colours and patterns!

• The tail will not grow back if they have lost it

• These geckos are prone to MBD - correct feeding is essential

• They can be noisy jumping around in their cage at night - we don't recommend keeping them in the bedroom for this reason!

• They aren't very smart when jumping - care is needed so they don't fall from large heights when handling

• They are prone to overheating - temperatures must not exceed 27C(80F)

• They are a nocturnal species - they sleep during the day

If you are just looking for a pet, we recommend starting with an adult or well grown-on young male, especially if you are a beginner with this species. Males are cheaper to buy than females, and because you'd be getting an adult/older juvenile, the animal is well established and less fragile than a small juvenile.

If however you would like to keep multiple cresties in the same cage, we recommend buying a group of females. They generally get along with each other, but you should keep an eye out for biting in case they don't.

All crested geckos bred by us are:

• Raised individually - no tail nips or other injuries from cagemates biting each other!

• Well fed on commercial crested gecko diet as well as occasional crickets - they eagerly accept anything that moves

• In excellent health - their Repashy crested gecko diet ensures no cases of MBD (jaw or limb deformities) in our collection

• Parentage information is provided for all geckos we have available - so you can get an idea of adult colouration of your chosen gecko

• Correctly sexed - guaranteed - we sell at 10g+ to ensure correct sexing, unless otherwise stated as unsexed

• Exact age and weight information can be provided - just email us!
